Tari was his name
Apr 27, 2018 Chapter 1
One chilling Saturday evening, Emma was home alone in her family's Lagos residence pondering how best to spend her post-graduation break in the absence of her brother who ditched her for a late-night party. Her parents were in Ogun state to spend the weekend with granny who had recently been diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. Also, due to Emma's recent episode with pneumonia, she was in no shape to travel. Therefore her parents left in the care of her only elder brother.
Although it was just 7:15 pm but the sun had disappeared from the sky and pitch darkness was swiftly falling over her luxurious Sailor's Estate residence, but for the illuminating streetlights. Emma warily looked at the wall clock in a bit of a dilemma and fiddling with her phone, the fifteen years old high school graduate considered what neighbor she could invite over for a sleepover.
"Should I invite Alexa over?" she thought to herself "No! Her mother would definitely not allow her to step out this late". "what about Nina?", "Nah! She lives far away" she said. Right then it dawned on her that she could invite her latest crush over, the new guy on her street... Tari was his name.
They had met about two weeks ago, during a Saturday jogging session. While she was doing her laps across the lonely estate park, she noticed a cute, ruddy but short guy staring at her while he geared up for his laps. Feigning ignorance, she continued her workout with little reference to him. Then the weirdest thing happened. He waited till she was close to him before he synchronized his lap with hers and tried to have a conversation with her. His British accent gave him away to have just relocated to Nigeria and he sounded so matured she could tell he was in his late 20's. With a childish grin on his face, he made her workout her best ever as he made her blush uncontrollably with his boyish charms and snide comebacks.
They spent no less than 20 minutes chatting and jogging and during that moment they had grown fond of each other. He even mentioned that he had relocated to Nigeria and and that he was temporarily staying with his female cousin. After the workout, they exchanged numbers and had been in close contact ever since. Sadly, they had not been together since then due to their conflicting schedules and nosy family members.
With a devious smile on her lips, Emma picked up the phone to invite him over. The phone had barely rung a few times before someone answered it saying "Hello!". It was a lady. Emma replied, "Good evening, please is Tari closeby?". The lady replied "and you are?". After a brief silence, Emma answered: "My name is Emma, I am friends and neighbours with Tari". In a rude and harsh tone, the lady replied " I am Dupe, Tari's wife. I can see you have met my husband. Please stay away from my husband or you would have yourself to blame!". With that, she hung up the phone.
