Ditch the Pills, Save the Kids!
May 01, 2018 Chapter 1
Jeremy! Jeremy!!! his mother thundered in her Spanish accent as she shut the boot to her shiny black Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class SUV. "Get yourself into this car now or you are going to miss your flight boy!"
"On my way mom. I just wanted to be sure I forgot nothing in the room and apparently, I forgot my watch's charging dock, thank goodness I came back" he answered from his boyish street facing room.
In no time, he had locked the door and hopped anxiously into the car. The journey from their Goldie Luxury Estate Memphis TN home to the Memphis International Airport would take about 15 minutes and boarding was to begin in 10 minutes. Awkwardly, the journey to the airport felt exceedingly short as emotions heightened given that this was the first time Jeremy was fly solo as a barely legal teen. With a tinge of fear and concern in her voice, all his mother could say during the trip was how proud she was of him and how much she loved him.
They got to the airport and with no time for pleasantries, they rushed to the Pan-Am aisle to check Jeremy in. Luckily for them, he was part of the last set of passengers to check-in. While he was about leaving the check-in desk, his mother pulled him back, hugged him for what seemed like an eternity and planted the most loving kiss on his forehead.
"Now you go and make me proud. Show those UN folks that what you are made of; a tender heart, an insurmountable will, and a voracious intellect". With tears in both their eyes, they bade each other farewell as Jeremy went past Check-in to board his flight to Beijing, China. The Airbus A380 seemed a little bit too humongous for his personality and inadequate flight experience, but he felt right at home once he located his business class seat. "Wow! the perks of being a UN youth delegate" he thought to himself.
Ever since his dad died via over-dose caused by his Investment Banking stress management over-dependence on heroin 6 years ago, Jeremy's mother enlightened him on the causes and effects of substance abuse. His deep emotional loss and exposure to limitless medical resources from her personal study left him more knowledgeable than the average 30 years old male on drugs by the time he was only 15. This and his mother's vision not to allow the same mistake she made with her husband occur to her son, led to the formation of his award-winning (UN Award for Development Excellence) N.G.O. - Ditch the Pills and Save the Kids!
