Improving Your Memory with Vitamins
Mar 04, 2018 Chapter 1
Whether you have Alzheimer's disease or any form of memory loss, there are certain vitamins and minerals that can prevent them. Among them are vitamin B-12, omega-3 fatty acids and herbal supplements like ginkgo biloba. I am sure you'll wonder if these can really do the trick.
Well, let's see some of the clinical studies that have been carried out on vitamins and memory loss.
For a very long time, scientists have been doing so much research on the relationship between B-12 (cobalamin) and memory loss. Some experts have claimed that sufficient B-12 in one's diet can help improve the memory. Also, other studies have shown that B-12 can reduce the rate of cognitive decline with people showing early signs of Alzheimer's, especially if combined with omega-3 fatty acids.
You can get sufficient B-12 either naturally in foods like poultry and fish, or in nutritional supplements that contain essential vitamins.
Research has shown that vitamin E is of great benefit to the mind and memory in people who are aging. A study released by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in 2014 showed that people who consumed the right amounts of vitamin E were able to combat Alzheimer's disease and it declined to a moderate level. Those who participated took 2,000 international units (IU) dosage each day. However, it should be noted that taking more than 1000 IU per day could be a high risk for people suffering from cardiovascular diseases which could lead to prostate cancer.
On the long run, your food should have sufficient vitamin E and if you aren't sure, you could consult your doctor. The deficiency of Vitamin E is very rare but people on low-fat diets could suffer it.
Vitamin E could be found in seeds, nuts, vegetables like bell peppers and spinach, dark-colored fruits like blackberries, blueberries and avocados.
Another good source of vitamin E is nutritional supplements.
When it comes to memory loss, people of various ages could suffer it, although it is common in older persons. If you want to prevent it while your memory is still intact, it is necessary that you get your vitamins from consuming the right food. Eating well and exercising could do you a lot good.
One way to get the essential vitamins required is the Mediterranean diet which involves majority plant-based food, fish, olive oil in preparing food and a reduction red meat.
Another way is taking nutritional supplements that are high in vitamins. When taking these supplements, you need to take the right dosage at the right time so they can function properly. The importance of these nutritional supplements cannot be overlooked because they have been proved to contain vitamins and other minerals which are supplied and boost the function of the memory. You should note that before taking these supplements, you should see a doctor who would give you a proper dosage that should help keep your memory intact or even boost its function.
